THE OTHER HILLSIDE

This project is for a single-family house located on a hillside site in Sylmar, Los Angeles County, California. The new construction comprises a Primary Dwelling Unit (PDU) of 3,500s on the second and third stories and an Additional Dwelling Unit (ADU) of 1,100sf which occupies the first floor. The two units share a semi-subterranean garage. The PDU will comprise 3 bedrooms and 3baths and counts with several decks oriented to maximize views and minimize solar heat gains. The design involves a careful analysis of the opportunities and constraints of the site, including existing site features such as mature trees, topography, and drainage patterns.
